Bow Valley College, under the direction of its Vice President Academic, Dr. Misheck Mwaba, is prioritizing student health and safety, and will therefore continue to deliver courses online for the Fall term.
We understand that you may have many questions about your particular course and program. Please take a look at answers provided on the Student FAQs or email [email protected] for additional questions. The following responses outline how these changes impact your post graduate work permit (PGWP), as per Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies.
How will online delivery impact you as an incoming international student?
1.As an incoming student starting September 2020, already in Canada
New students within Canada will commence their studies online. Please refer to registration dates to register for your classes. As all classes continue to be delivered online, this will not impact your PGWP. Further information on this policy can be found here.
2. As an incoming student starting September 2020 with a study permit approval letter, studying overseas
Students who receive a study permit approval letter can commence their studies overseas without negatively impacting their PGWP. As per the IRCC:
“If you start your studies in September 2020, you won’t have time deducted from the length of your post-graduation work permit for studies you complete while outside Canada between September 2020 and December 31, 2020.”
Please find important updates from the IRCC regarding study permit applications here.
Please note, course registration opens for new students on July 6th, 2020.
3. As an incoming student starting September 2020 without a study permit approval letter, studying overseas
The IRCC is allowing students to study at a Canadian institution overseas, without a study permit approval letter. However, time spent studying without a study permit will not be counted towards a PGWP.
As per the IRCC, students “who do not have either a study permit or approval on their study permit application, time spent pursuing their studies online will not count toward their eligibility for a post-graduation work permit.”
