As we get closer to school opening, I am sure many of you are looking for updates from each of your school districts. Here are some quick updates from West Vancouver.
Superintendent’s message
Chris Kennedy, the head of our school district, posted a message about the return to school in September. You may view the message here: https://www.youtube.com/
Quarterly system
In past years, we have been a linear system, teaching eight courses over the course of a school year. To help deliver secondary school courses effectively during a pandemic, we are switching to a quarterly system. We will teach two courses over 10 weeks periods. See 4:40 in the video above.
Online option not available
At this time, we are not offering online education to our new or returning students. We are putting all our energy into bringing students into West Vancouver to join classes in-person.
School updates sent to students
Expect your students to get emails directly from their schools next week. There may be in-person teaching as well as a hybrid system given by the schools. Please understand this planning phase is very complex and may vary slightly from school to school.
Borders and Permits
At present, we are still hoping the federal government opens borders and gives more travel exemptions to students. We expect an announcement next week as the current border closure expires on August 31. Depending on the announcement, we will inform you of how we can best accommodate your students.
