This information was released today by the Limestone DSB for you to look at. Further information is available at www.limestone.on.ca.Students will now take one class per day for the entire day and complete a credit every 23 days. There will now be four credits and four time periods each semester. Here are the questions and answers
Q: Is there any news on the current border restrictions that are in place until August 31st?
A: No, we have heard of no changes to the restrictions or of the date.
Q: Can returning International students return to study here or stay home to study ‘on-line’
A: All returning International students may return to study here or stay and home and study on line. All returning students have safely landed and are completing their mandatory 14 self-isolation right now.
Q: When will I know my timetable for either on-line or in-person classes?
A: All schools are now re-timetabling their whole schools. This is usually a one month process that is to be done now in 3 days. We should have answers about timetables and on-line course offerings by Friday of this week or Monday next week.
Q: Can I study on-line and then later in year take in-person classes?
A: Yes, once you choose on-line for a class, you must finish that class on-line. Your next class you may in-person until complete.
Q: If I am a new International student waiting for the border restrictions to change, should I still take on-line? Will I get a partial refund?
A: Yes you should take on-line until we hear about the border changes. You will get a refund for your homestay portion and activity portion. It will be processed shortly.
Q: Are there protocols for safety in the school?
A: Yes. The are many changes to school given the nature of the COVID 19 virus. These include schedule changes, hygiene measures, outdoor activities and entry procedures.
Q: Can I deferral my travel to Canada to February 2021 or September 2021?
A: Yes. Attached is our new refund and deferral policy that is extended to November 15, 2020.
Q: Are on-line courses ‘live’ courses where I have be live with my teacher when they are on-line everyday?
A: No. Our understanding currently is that students will not have to be ‘live’ so that time zone shifts will not matter.
The Government of Ontario has not accepted the previous Quad-Mester system. As a we are moving to a “blocked timetable” with one class occurring at a time. This model will further reduce the number of direct and indirect student contacts and enhance existing safety protocols at the secondary level.
The blocked timetable will see students complete one class (period) at a time. Each block will include 300 instructional minutes per day for 23 days (22 instructional days plus one day for culminating activities/exams). Students will still attempt four credits between September and January as they would under a normal semester system in the order: period 1, 2, 3 and 4. Breaks and lunches will be staggered throughout the day, based on school timetables.
We are currently finalizing our school opening plans as follows:
September 3, 2020
- The first day of school would be a day of remote learning for all students. They would be encouraged to preview our health and safety protocols through our Minds Online learning portal. These protocols will be reviewed again once they return to school in person.
- Grade 9 students will be contacted by their period 1 teacher to provide information necessary for their orientation activities on September 4, 2020.
- Students in School to Community classes will be contacted by their teachers. Schools will make decisions regarding individual timetables that are in the best interest of students receiving S2C supports.
September 4, 2020
- Grade 9 students attend school for orientation and instruction.
- Grade 10 to 12 students will be contacted by their period 1 teacher to provide information necessary for their return to school on September 8, 2020.
September 8, 2020
- All students in Grade 9 to 12 attend school.
