Hello from ECLC in Halifax! I hope that you are all doing well and managing to survive this massive downturn in our industry. As always, if there is anything we can do to help you at this time, please let us know.
We wanted to update you on what is happening here at the school as we are now into the fall. We felt that things would be back to normal by now. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Canada’s borders are still closed to international travellers until at least September 30th. We do not know what will happen after that. Atlantic Canada has remained protected from the rest of Canada and this has allowed us to keep the number of COVID cases very low. Everyone who comes to Atlantic Canada (even if they come from another province) must self-isolate for 14 days. All our public schools are open again, while most universities and colleges are offering online classes.
ECLC is still very active and recently attended a 3-day virtual ICEF agent event where we had the opportunity to chat to some of our current valued partners and hear firsthand how you are managing. We also met a lot of new agents and hope to develop partnerships with them. We have some more virtual student and agent fairs lined up in the next few weeks. We are also still busy welcoming students to our very popular teacher-led virtual classes.
On September 8th we opened our doors to students and invited them to join our Learning Centre. This allows students to come to school to study if they wish. Their classes are still online but the Learning Centre provides a change of scenery and the opportunity to interact (socially distanced, of course) with other students and ECLC staff. There is also academic and personal support available for them if they need it. It seems that most students prefer to stay at home and study!
