Students will be happy to note that Government of Canada has announced guaranteed study permit processing times for the upcoming semester. This is a welcome change that brings in a level of clarity around study permit applications for incoming students this fall.

All students that submit a completed study permit application by May 15, 2021 will receive a decision by August 6, 2021, in time to begin their studies for September 2021.

Details on what comprises a complete study permit application can be seen on the Government of Canada website.

Students may not receive a decision on their applications by August 6 if they are unable to submit a complete application due to COVID-19 restrictions such as limited service at visa application centres (VACs) or other service providers due to health and safety measures.

However, students who are only able to submit partially complete applications should do so as soon as possible.

Completed applications submitted after May 15 will be processed as promptly as possible, but with these applications the government is not able to guarantee that a final decision would be made before the start of the fall semester.

Please bear in mind, that the above is the stance of the government and this has no implication on the University of Lethbridge’s application deadline. Our application deadline as it stands is still the 30^th of June 2021 for most of our programs.

As for students that decide to apply to the University of Lethbridge program after May 15 2021 and are offered admission, be rest assured that they are in no way deemed ineligible to apply for a study permit.

They can still apply for a study permit, but in these instances the government is unable to guarantee a final decision before the fall intake commences.

In addition to the above, you would also aware that international students who arrive in Canada will be required to quarantine for three days at the port of arrival in a government approved hotel.
