IRCC UPDATE

The Canadian federal government recently approved a selected number of post-secondary institutions in Canada to accept international students, effective October 20, 2020. The University of Regina has developed a comprehensive readiness plan to safely welcome and support international students, complying with both provincial and federal government guidelines.

UR International wants to ensure that all students who have the intention of travelling to Canada for their studies at the University of Regina are aware of the current protocols and procedures during their travels and upon their arrival in Canada.

Please read the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announcement detailing the new student requirements: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2020/10/update-on-travel-restriction-exemptions-for-international-students.html.

You may also familiarize yourself with IRCC’s webpage for international students: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/students.html.

SELF-QUARANTINE ON CAMPUS IS MANDATORY

As per the University of Regina’s COVID-19 Readiness Plan, international students and their co-arriving immediate family members planning to travel are required to complete their mandatory 14-day self-quarantine on campus at the University of Regina.

Rooms are provided for a fee with a cleaning kit for the upkeep of their room during their isolation period, and meal options are also available. Students and their co-arriving immediate family members who do not complete their mandatory 14-day quarantine on campus will be deemed not in compliance with the regulations set out in the University of Regina’s COVID-19 Readiness Plan.

Please note that students and their co-arriving immediate family members who do not complete their mandatory 14-day quarantine on campus will be considered in violation and reported to the provincial and federal governments.

MANDATORY 14-DAY QUARANTINE INFORMATION

Travellers returning from international destinations (including the United States) are subject to a mandatory self-isolation public health order and federal quarantine requirements.

Students must:

  • complete 14-day self-quarantine on campus with the University of Regina Housing Services
  • inform UR International about how to get to their quarantine destination
  • arrange for all groceries and additional supplies
  • how to access essential services and medical care

Consequences of non-compliance with the 14-day self-quarantine public health order may result in:

  • a $2000 fine (Provincial level)
  • a fine of up to $750,000 (Federal level)
  • 6 months of jail time
  • being found inadmissible, removed from Canada and banned from entering for 1 year
